At our meeting, on 2/27/2002 (my birthday), we introduced additional new characters for our new adventure.� Some background information for the adventure first:
At the little
village near old Fort Harwich, people are disappearing.� They believe that our party has revived the
curse on the village.� So far 3 people
have disappeared.� Lena and Tivol of the
village decide to sneak off to Londinium to find Talia and the party and get
revenge (Lena�s son (Juprin) and daughter (Judina) � teenagers were taken, as
was Tivol�s teenage son (Tindar)).� They
take the town treasure trove (jewelry scoured from the fort worth 450gp) and
poison that Lena knows (Sassoone leaf).�
The rest of the townspeople now think Lena and Tivol have been taken,
but Stoddle is not so sure.� Stoddle and
Derlin travel to Londinium to find the party and ask for advice/help.
Along the way, Stoddle and Derlin run into Gus � a � Wood Elf of the region - and ask him for help (Gus has met with these villagers a few times and knows them slightly).� Gus agrees and they journey together to Londinium.� Gus takes them straight to the Wayward Wanderer because that is the inn owned by one of his three �Pa�s�.
Meanwhile, Tivol (from Fort Harwich) hires thieves from �the Black Hand�[1] � a now illegal thieves guild in Londinium[2].� Tivol hires the black hand to kill two of Talia, Devis, Gimli, Legolas, Bunklor, Glistar, or Gwynne using the jewelry.� �the black hand� will not kill Gwynne because she is a thief of unknown allegiance.� Legolas and Gimli are out of town.
Meanwhile, Berigand meets Verro (an Elven rogue) and Tulkas (a Half-orc rogue/fighter), two members of �the black hand�.� The 4th time they meet (after dusk), they urgently ask Berigand to join them on an attempt to capture a villain with a bounty on his head.� The reward is 200gp to be split 3 ways.� They will have Berigand wait in the Alley while Verro confronts him and Tulkas comes from behind.� When this occurs the villain (who happens to be Bunklor) is immediately shot by Verro.� Bunklor tumbles past Verro as Tulkas and Berigand miss trying to attack him.� Bunklor then turned and faced his attackers.� He deflects a crossbow bolt shot at him by Verro then drops Tulkas with a single punch.� Verro and Berigand flee.� Bunklor drags the body of Tulkas to some Roman guards who carry the body off then recommend Bunklor go to a cleric named Tansen for some healing.� Bunklor leads Tansen back to the Wayward Wanderer.
Meanwhile, Lena leaves a poisoned mug for Talia and Talia takes constitution points of damage.� This stirs up the party as they Talia was planning to perform her new ballad about Cascair Famhair at the Wayward Wanderer.� Bunklor and Tansen come in and share their story as the party speculates about who is trying to kill them and why.� Berigand has also coincidentally made his way to this end after fleeing his failed battle and recognizes Bunklor, but Bunklor does not recognize him.� Felcan is here and has talked to Talia about singing with her this evening.� Ashimar is here and is eavesdropping on the interesting actions of the party.� Ashimar is a native of Londinium and is knows of �the black hand�.� Gus comes in with Stoddle and Derlin and they share what they know.�
Meanwhile, Tivol has been here watching for a reaction to the poison and he has been drinking.� Upon seeing no harm, and getting drunk, he decides to attack Devis himself.� Before he can do so, he is stopped by the backstab of Berigand and command of Felcan.� Tansen heals Tivol after binding him.� The tavern owner forces all these people into a separate room to work out their differences and a plan of action without disturbing his other guests.

Talia goes to sing.� As the rest of the party is still in the other room talking, 6 elite Roman soldiers wearing bronzish/redish colored plate armor come into the meeting room.� These soldiers are known as Spartans and are not commonly seen.� They ARE the law.� They are very powerful (all at LEAST 5th level fighters).� None of this group speaks common, so they are accompanied by two priests of Heironeous to translate.� The priest, named Malachi casts a calming spell, comprehend languages, detect good/evil/law/chaos.� They interrogate the party.� The lead Spartan is named Tyranius.� They are concerned with the use of poison.� They were a little concerned with the murder attempt, but in learning it was no Devis (who is not a registered Roman citizen), they dismissed the matter.� They interrogate Tivol in a separate room, but they let him live.� They leave. The party returns to drinking in the tavern.
In the morning, the party checks the room where Lena was, but the Spartans had taken her and all of her stuff away.� The party decided to not contact �the black hand� to try and have the bounty on them removed.
The party traveled safely along the rode with Devis�s wagon and mules to two cities, then struck out on the old road to old Fort Harwich on the third day.� At night, two Yeth Hounds flew over and all members of the party fled in random directions in panic except for Felcan, Talia, Bunklor, and Derlin.� A Yeth Hound attacked Ashimar and knocked him unconscious and started feeding.� Another attacked Berigand and would have felled him except Devis was near and helped kill the hound.� Then they searched and found the other hound munching on Ashimar and slayed it (after Berigand was also knocked unconscious).� The party all made it back to the campsite.� Talia layed on hands and Tansen cast cure light on each of the 3 wounded people.� Felcan also cast a cure light.� Everyone was fully healed at this point.
The party slept a few more hours then traveled.� At lunchtime, Talia was attacked by a Xill that emerged from the ethereal plan to try and paralyze her and carry her back to the ethereal plane.� The vicious creature struck well but Talia resisted its poison each time.� She was knocked unconscious by the third round, and after three rounds of most of the party beating on it, the creature decided to return to the ethereal plane.

The party traveled to the little village.� They learned another girl was missing as of yesterday morning.� Gus searched the area and found and followed a trail.� Gus, Gwynne, Devis, Glistar, Berigand, and Ashimar followed the trail while Felcan, Talia and others verified that justice was done to Tivol.� Tivol must do all the worst chores in the village for the next year.� Devis challenged Gwynne to shoot him with a crossbow after he put up a magical shield but her shot got through and did 4 points of damage.� Devis and Berigand went back to the village and got the rest of the group and they all followed the trail with the skill of Gus and Bunklor tracking.� The camped at night and followed all the next day.� After crossing the Stour River and headed toward Box Ford, it becomes nightfall so the party goes back south across the river to camp at a good location Gus knows about.

The party traveled toward the location of Box Ford.� Because Gus was familiar with the area, he recommended circling around from the North because that direction would probably less heavily guarded.� The party halted North of the location of the former fort and Gus and Bunklor scouted the former perimeter of the area.� They were shot at while doing so and they headed back to the rest of the party.� Felcan performed some healing then the party spread out and assaulted a small lightly fortified mound near the center of the fort.� It turns out that the group staying there had dug out the old door leading down to the former dungeons and was settled there.� The party slew the three defenders at the door (a Half-Orc, Goblin, and Human) and then the majority of them rushed down into the dungeon to fight more leaving Gwynne, Gus, and Glistar at the top.� The party killed a human, goblin, orc, and hobgoblin in the dungeon, then discovered that this was an area to hold prisoners.� They found eight halflings in the 1st cell.� They found the 4 kids they were looking for along with two other human males and freed them in the 2nd cell.� They found a Drow, Grey Elf (named Pellar), a Half-Orc named Gok that they beat on and Felcan nearly killed before deciding this particular Half-Orc might not be thoroughly evil, and a Satyr named Grindle in the 3rd cell.� They found a Bullywug, a Troglodyte named Sclethithil that speaks Draconic, and another Goblin in the 4th cell.� This last Goblin showed them the keys and is currently cowering in the barracks.� The barracks seem to hold 20, which matches the list of names the goblin spoke of.
While freeing prisoners some more goblins came from the outside shooting arrows and drove Glistar down inside and Gus into the wilderness (Gwynne had already gone down into the dungeon to talk to the Halflings and try to free their bonds.)� Devis fired arrows at the goblins though he could not see him � and they fired back though they could not see Devis.� The goblins tried to start a fire to smoke the party out but the smoke rose up out of the cave instead.� The goblins lowered a net over the cave, which stopped the Satyr when he tried to dash out.� The Satyr rushed back down into the cave but is severely wounded.� Devis and Talia snuck up the tunnel and threw some bombs to burn the net covering the opening, but Talia took an arrow in the back on her way down.�
Gus, meanwhile found the trail of the human prisoners that had been freed and caught up with them.� They had not seen the goblins and were stilling hurrying back toward old Fort Harwich.

The party
charged the goblins at the top of the dungeon.�
They defeated them, but Bunklor and Devis were unconscious.� Tansen expended his healing spells on
them.� Ashimar, Berigand, and Glistar
decided to go free the troglodyte.�
Glistar ran after being disgusted by the trog�s dining on the Bullywug.� Then the trog attached Ashimar and Berigand
knocking both unconscious.� Talia managed
to stop the trog.� Ashimar and Berigand
had to be carried along.� A freed
half-orc named Gok and a Grey Elf named Pellar went with them. The party
followed a trail pointed out by Drappo, the goblin that Devis adopted.� The came to a river, took some rafts down
stream that intersected the Stour, then eventually disembarked on the south
shore.� The Halflings went off on their
own.� The party made camp.� Meanwhile, that night, Gus and his humans
observed a light in the distance, but did not know what it was.
The next
morning Gus led his group, but the saw dancing lights, then a moving forest,
then heard voices, then they were entangled,�
It was all caused by a pixie routing them toward the party while having
fun and trying to irritate Gus.� Gus was
goodhearted though so the Pixie gave him a small 100gp diamond.� Gus found the party.� Most party members were fully healed after
the clerics prayed for spells.
The party
had found many notes in the dungeon � here they are, and who found them:

Bunklor
Try not to chop down any trees.� Taken only fallen branches.�
If we don�t piss off the Druids they will probably leave us alone.
Explicit instructions for the care of prisoners.� Instructions about feeding (a Cleric
purifies some of the stale bread and potatoes every other morning before they
feed them.)� Water twice a day.� Removal from shackles, but only one at a time.� They get collared and walked around for
exercise every day.
Explicit instructions for drills � how to lower the net
above the cave.� How to keep the weapons
in good shape and ready for use.�

Ashimar
That wood-elf ranger Malthasar may bring in a few prisoners, just make sure they aren�t Romans.� If he doesn't bring any by Sept 18, then don't expect any.
Talia
The boat should arrive September 25th in the
morning.� We will leave here about 6pm
in the evening of the 24th.�
About 30 of us will accompany you.�
We need to leave earlier than usual because that Druid Albion saw our
parade of prisoners last time and he said if we did it again he was going to
rain on our parade.� So expect rain and
expect it to take a little longer.
Felcan
Just keep the pipes away from the Satyr.� We will sell them with the Satyr to the
Romans because the Romans might want them.
Glistar
Explicit instructions about prisoner searches and
abductions.� The number of prisoners to
obtain is about 22.� Halflings count as
� and other creatures could count as more.�
Halflings are probably worth the most.�
Only start acquiring humans as a last resort.� Keep any exotic creature separate until you know what their
powers are or have consulted me.� Most
of the non-halfings will go to the Roman coliseums.� The Romans will pay a much higher price for anything unusual and
all of you will make more money for it too.
Berigand
There must always be at least 4 groups in the vicinity of
the dungeon.� One group with the
prisoners, one on guard at the top of the dungeon, one on patrol within a �
mile of the dungeon, and one on patrol within 3 miles of the dungeon.� Shifts should last 8 hours before
rotating.� The other two groups should
be out seeking new prisoners as needed.�
One of the clerics must be around at least every two days to purify the
food.
The drow can cast darkness, faerie fire, and dancing lights
at will.� She hates bright light.� Keep her hands well bound in case she is a
spell-caster.� She can see in the dark
as well or better than any of us.
Gus, a little history:
As a child you heard the legends about the wood-elf name
Malthasar.� His parents and sister were
brutally killed by human soldiers when he was barely in his twenties.� This fueled an intense hatred of humans,
especially soldiers.� Over the next 200
years he would lived alone as a skilled Ranger and would occasionally kill
humans, especially soldiers, when he had a good opportunity.� This occurred in the southern part of Great
Britain.� As the population grew and
more intense hunts by humans, and eventually other elves for him increased, he
decided to go North.� Over the next few
hundred years people would occasionally be slain in the south and some claimed
it was Malthasar still seeking revenge.�
This eventually became a folk tale used by humans to frighten kids into
staying near the home, but even the folk tale is not heard much of any longer.
One night about 6 months ago, you (Gus) were asleep high up
in a tree in a large forest west of London when you awoke to see an older
WoodElf standing toward the end of the very same branch you were on.� You don�t know how he got there because you
had not seen or heard him sneak past you, and there seemed no other way to come
down from above or come up from below except to walk across you to the edge of
the branch.� Having just awakened and
not sure you weren�t in some sort of dream you just looked at the Wood-Elf.� He spoke to you then and said, �It was a
good thing you done today � shooting that human.� I can see your hatred of the Romans runs deep.� Well let me tell you to not save that anger
just for them Romans, cause all them humans are the same.� I�m gonna pick on some Romans myself
though.� Can�t stand the way they invaded
this land.� Humans was bad enough, but
these Romans are the worst sort.�� The
Elf then jumped off the branch and disappeared without a sound.� You looked down but saw no sign of him.� Based on his appearance and actions, you
thought perhaps the legends about Malthasar were true; but maybe it was all
just a dream.

Gok, the
Half-orc headed out on his own toward Colchester.� The party traveled back to the village by Fort Harwich.� The people were glad but stated that Stoddle
and Tivol were now also missing.� They
had been digging for treasure in the cemetery the day before but did not come
back.� Being only a mile away, the party
went to investigate.� Gus entered the
cemetery alone to search for tracks and was attacked by ghouls.� With the aid of the party, the 5 ghouls and
1 ghast were slain, but some party members were paralyzed and nauseous.� At the edge of the cemetery the party halted
while they recovered.� They were then
attacked by a vargouille which held several party members enthralled but the
others managed to kill it.� The party
stayed one night in the little fort then headed to Colchester.� At night, while camped, they were attacked
by a Dire wolverine of huge size and incredible ferocity.� Bunklor barely survived and the party
defeated it.� The kept the hide and took
it to town.� While resting in
Colchester, Berigand made contact with Gok (the Half-orc) who is a member of a
local Thieves Guild (not the black hand).�
In exchange for saving him, Gok�s guild identified the magic items the
party had found.
The party XP earned is 16,200 (Yeth hounds = 1800, Xill = 2700, members of �the black hand� = 8050, trog = 300, Ghast and Ghouls = 2400, vargouille = 600, dire wolverine = 1350).
